Indy was in at the hospital for his regularly scheduled treatments. The good news is that there are no new areas of growth and none of the areas that have been treated are in his central vision area. The bad news is that one area receiving treatment does not seem to be responding to the laser. The optical surgeon said she will give it two more goes with the laser, but if it looks like there is still malignant growth, then she will recommend a round of chemotherapy to reduce the size of growth to shrink it back down the size where it can be treated by the laser again. So of course we have all of our fingers and toes crossed that the next couple of treatments are successful.

Just a quick note on Indy's MRI before I go to bed (Al and I didn't sleep all that well last night). The brain images look great- no signs of abnormal growths in there. The oncologists had warned us that if Indy had an intracraneal tumor that he would be pretty fussy and unhappy. And while Indy can be a bit fussy at times he's usually a pretty happy guy. So with that I am going to sleep a little easier tonight. We have another EUA in a little over a week. This is a hard month having to see my little boy coming out of anesthesia twice. But when you look around the Children's Hospital and see what some of the other kids/parents are going thru then you realize how lucky you are. And we were really blessed with Indy.

Tomorrow Indy is going in for an MRI at the hospital. They will examine a particular part of his brain to look for abnormal growth. While not common, he is at higher risk of developing a tumor in this part of the brain. If there is any abnormal growth it will likely be slow to develop so he does not need an MRI as often as the monthly EUA's. This MRI is 6 months after diagnosis. If it is all clear he will get another one in six months. Having abnormal growth in that part of the brain as well as the eyes is called "trilateral retinoblastoma".
On Friday Indy is going to be three quarters of a year old! He's quite a silly little fella. He loves smooches on his belly but hates having his face cleaned. Dawn's worried that he's going to be a little rascal, but I'm not - I'm sure he's going to grow up to be quite a silly little rascal, but I'm sure we can direct his energy to positive pursuits.

Indy's right eye did not have any new abnormal cells!! However one of the older little patches had to be treated with a stronger laser to ensure they wouldn't grow. While Dr. Paton didn't see that old patch expanding she also didn't see those cells as dead yet. Thus the bigger laser. We still need to go back next month for our regularly scheduled EUA. And we'll have his 6 month MRI early next month too. So our poor little guy has to be put under twice in May. I hate that he has to go thru this so much. But it's better than the alternative!
Today, April 18th, is our 3 year anniversary for our Vegas wedding. Technically this is our only wedding as the big Glasgow affair was a reception with the whole family. We also had a reception in Vancouver for our friends. I'm finding most of the couples I know these days are experiencing the global wedding dilemma. Most of my friends are either married to or dating someone from a different country. We were just invited to a wedding in June where the bride is from Vancouver Isl and the groom is from Spain. This is pretty typical of the visual effects industry too. We're a big melting pot.
Here's a pix from that happy day in Vegas 3 years ago. I think once Indy is weened off BM in the day maybe Al and I will escape for 24 hours down to Vegas while my mom takes care of Indy. Don't worry, Indy! We won't bet all of your college fund!

Tomorrow morning we have another EUA. I'm starting to loose track of how many this has been now. We know the routine. But I'm never quite sure how Indy will react. He's usually pretty good about the fasting and getting up early. He doesn't like it when the nurses start to put drops in his eyes. But he's usually pretty good overall.
After a very enjoyable weekend I am going to put the laptop down and go to bed to read for a little bit. I've got a huge stack of books next to my bed that I barely get a chance to read. Usually once I crack a book I'm ready to sleep in about 10 mins.
We'll write an update tomorrow after the EUA. I'm hoping there are no new abnormal cells again like last time. I'm also hoping that my cousin, Jillian, has a healthy baby boy tomorrow. She's in the hospital in Cincinnati now inducing labor. The Dr's have been following her pregnancy closely for a while. Her son may have Dandy Walker syndrome and there are complications with his heart. So LOTS of positive thoughts to Jill and her husband Josh tonight.
I'm posting a pix of Indy sleeping. This was taken last night at the request of my friend Jennifer. Al has a security camera set up above his play yard so I can watch him on my laptop and phone. I love watching Indy TV. It's my favorite channel! And this is Indy's favorite sleeping pose- he kinda looks like he's relaxing on a raft in a pool.
